The not so random bicyclists of Amsterdam

By September 26, 2019September 27th, 20194 Comments1 min read

This is a video of random bicyclists in Amsterdam, which I recorded in a not so random fashion.

There are a plenty of clips of people biking around the city with a focus on infrastructure, drawing attention to the ease of getting around. At the other end of the spectrum, there are of videos that are devoted to infractions and other dangers faced on the street.

My interest lies on what happens next. The conscious decision to take the next step from a lifestyle that leads to liberation.  At some point, someone is encountered with the choice on whether to take a suitcase with them while riding a bike. Or perhaps another bike, friend or simply fill the blank.

Yes infrastructure plays a huge part in enabling someone in having that choice. But once the groundwork is laid, the beauty is born from a decision in knowing that you can do it.

Lovely video, and with great music – thank you. I did many of the things shown in your video when I was a child in an Australian country town in the 1960s, and even as a teenager in Melbourne in the 70s. Since then English speaking countries have gone insane with safety.

Thanks for your comment Antony. That’s interesting to hear and satisfying to know that you did some of these things when you were a kid. You’re totally right about how English speaking countries have gone overboard with safety.

Hey Lev, I recorded it on Wednesday, July 10th, 2019 at 8:00 pm. That’s pretty crazy that you would come across this vid and recognise yourself. Thanks for commenting and for the compliment.
